These drawings from the development of Crash 3's Nefarious Tropy are from the second session of working on the character. They're dated February 12 1998. The biggest difference this time around is the nature of his time travelling contraption. I added a lot of detail that resembles the gears and mechanisms of clocks including a cuckoo clock at the lower right side of his machine. Also there's been added a pumping device on the back of it whereby the pistons are connected to each other through joint-like bearings.
This N Trophy reminds me more of the action figure - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Crash-Bandicoot-Resaurus-Figures-1998/153084278062584?id=153084278062584&sk=photos_stream
ReplyDeleteLove the addition of the cuckoo clockCharles! Adds a bit of nutty taste to N.Tropy.
ReplyDeleteHey Charles, was steampunk technology ever involved in N.Trppy's development?
Maybe too much stuff for the PS1 to handle. But it's still a very cool design for N. Tropy!
ReplyDeleteHey charles, I came up with a little idea, could you please (as a request if you can) draw pinstripe with michael jackson's smooth criminal suit? that fits the character so much!
ReplyDeleteGabriele - Yes it was over the top detail for PS1 but it helped in developing the concept.
ReplyDeleteMatt - It does resemble the action figure and is very close to the final design.
Pat - I don't know to what degree steampunk was happening at the time but if it was it wasn't a mindful conscience influence on my part to be steampunk. A similar technological approach though.
Daniel - Got a lot on my plate at the moment which is cutting into my drawing time. I'll do what I can and will try and remember to do it.
I love Dr. Trophy's design so much. Even the original designs look so awesome. I do have an important question though Charles, and it's about Tropy's design. Some fans just want to know if Nefarious has hair or not. Here's a funny image drawn by a very good Crash fan artist known as Strixic on Deviantart, showing what he/she thinks could be under his time helmet: http://strixic.deviantart.com/art/Tropy-s-hair-367929728
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link Jacob. That's interesting to see N Tropy without his helmet and with hair. I never really thought about what he would look like without head gear. These images you featured open up new territory for the character.
ReplyDeleteWell, hello Charles! Yes, it's me, dj_lecter! I just changed my name... so... uhh, never mind.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway, those pictures are really cool as always. ^_^ I always try to draw, but my style... is.. very.. odd... .__.
Sorry my bad English. I'm from Finland, so, I'll say again: Greetings from warm Finland [here's summer right now and my school just started.]!
