Crash Coco Pura and Baby T

On February 26 1998 while in a session with Naughty Dog in the high rise office complex at Universal Studios my design assignment for the day was to come up with concept sketches of Crash and Coco Bandicoot together with their pets Pura and Baby T. Kind of like a group portrait. These are the first three drawings. I numbered them sequentially so I know for certain which ones were done first. They're photocopies made the day they were created. Unfortunately some aspects of the images were lost in the cropping. The originals were left with ND. I don't know how many in this series were previously published but I'll be following up with what I have in any case.

I'm sure the second ad third were never shown in the original site. I love Crash's pose in the second one :D

  3. Hey there Charles! It's nice to see group portraits like this one! I do recognize the first one but the last two are new to me.

There's another one that was left over on ND's website:

I do like the look of Crash in these sketches, that little attention lover!

  5. Nice drawings,Charles. I hope you keep showing us more drawings of Crash, Coco and all related with the series. By the way, what happened with the originals drawing made by your hand? At least you must have one original hand-made draw of Crash.

  6. Good to see a happy reception for these drawings! Thank you for your comments everyone! There's a few more on the way that have probably never been shown before. I'll have them available in the next few days.

The originals were left in the care of ND on the day they were created. I don't know what their fate or condition is these years later. They liked to frame original development art from Crash and give them away as gifts to Sony executives in the US Japan and Europe. So who can say where they for certain except those naughty doggies.

  7. An original piece of artwork is probably the crown jewel of any Crash Bandicoot collection!

  8. I would say so Matt. Consider how ND handled the original art when they presented gifts to Sony executives.

  10. It's common practice at many studios to discard original art. Just yesterday I picked up a huge amount of original production art from a local animation studio that would have otherwise dumped it. Can't say what the story is with ND and all the art they had from Crash. That's one reason why I increasingly wrote into my contracts the right to ownership to the original art I create.
