Spyro the Dragon revisited

The other night in class I had a chance to draw with my students. It came to mind that I haven't paid much attention to Spyro lately. This after a lively debate among those in attendance concerning how Spyro is represented in Skylanders. The consensus was for the classic version of the character. So I took it upon myself to do a few sketches of him and spend some time exploring different approaches to Spyro through head drawings. Not anything drastic but some modifications just for fun. These are the images I'm happiest with...

The last one kinda looks like a Dragon baby version of Dr. Cortex.
Awesome Spyro art here, he looks more cute and less teenager like the old games.

  2. Thanks Gabriele.

Spyro was originally like a little kid dragon. I prefer to draw him as I knew the character in the beginning. Maybe I'll do some sketches to see what he'd be like if he was older.

  3. Awesome stuff, love your work on Crash and Spyro. Was my entire childhood, thanks for creating the characters :)

I was wondering is it possible for me to send you a copy of Spyro the Dragon and get it signed as a Christmas present for a friend of mine?

R.D. Porter - Thanks for your positive words about Spyro. Send your copy along with a self addressed envelope. I'll be happy to sign it. Send it to The Animation Academy in Burbank. You can get the address from the school's website:

If there's a specific name that you want me to sign it to make a note of it as well.
