Continuing with development art from the creation of Dingodile. These drawings are dated February 4 1998 while Crash 3 was under way. I wasn't provided with decent duplicates of the drawings I did for Naughty Dog. These are xeroxed copies I made when I created the images at their studio. In some of them parts of the composition are missing in the tail area. Good thing I made these copies as we're able to see the process of how he came about. Previous entry was last week on April 2.
One of them is the actual Dingodile with a shirt. All those designs are awesome!
ReplyDeleteHey Charles can we know something more about the Crash Bible? Something that the games doesn't explain maybe? I absolutely would love to know the unused or unreleased ideas behind Crash Bandicoot.
Ah yes, so I see that the entire ND gang saw what they like with the second drawing of him. So the shirt was removed, you added the flamethrower and you got yourself the nifty pyromaniac we all now and love! Charles, was it your idea to give him an Australian accent?
ReplyDeleteAlso Charles, did you know in the cancelled reboot Crash Landed that Dingodile was gonna have a whole new redesign? Radical kept some of his classic design with a few minor touches. One thing is that he had the arms of a crocodile stitched on, scales also stitched on all around him including his tail. You can see it in this cutscene of the cancelled title (go to 0:28):

Gabriele - The Crash Bible is entirely from the Willy the Wombat phase of Crash. It's a lot of material. Honestly I don't know when I'll have enough time to get to it but I'll keep it in mind and will do what I can to eventually share what's in it with Crash fans.
ReplyDeletePat - Dingodile was not my idea. It came from ND. They brought the concept to me and I took it from there to give him a look. The Australian aspect of what eventually became Crash came from a project of mine. I had some development art in my portfolio that I shared with ND when I first met them and they took it and ran with it. That's the project I've been meaning to launch. It predates Crash and had a direct influence on the direction ND took with their project.
I checked out Dingodile in the video. That's pretty interesting. Thanks for the link.
