I like what I see Charles! Hey Charles, while working between Crash 1 and Crash 2, did you or the ND gang ever noticed the similarities of Tiny Tiger and Koala Kong? Reason being is that they're both marsupials on steroids but have dumb intelligence? Was this the reason why KK was not seen in later Crash games until Crash Bash and Twinsanity?
How about He-Crash and the Masters of the Bandicootiverse.
When it comes to Koala Kong and the Tasmanian / Tiny Tiger I honestly do not know Pat. I wasn't part of the decision making at ND when it came to how why or when characters would be included. They were on their own trip. Frankly a lot of the creative decisions they made I couldn't get into. Like dropping Tawna for example in favor of Coco. I would've kept both characters in there. I feel the Crash franchise could have reached its full potential with a girlfriend for Crash. She would've made a nice contrast to his sister and there could have been competition between them.
ND had their own logic and motives about the inclusion and exclusion of characters. I don't think they made the best decisions. Regardless that's the way it was and the way it is.
That's so funny Charles. Anyway I have a lot of questions regarding Crash (As usual). How came up with the designs of the three islands? And what was the name of the second one? We know that the first is called "N. Sanity Island" and the third "Cortex Island", but the second doesn't have a name. Speaking of N. Sanity Island, do you know for what the "N." stands for?
Sorry Gabriele, I don't know what the "N" in N Sanity stands for other than "Neo" from Neo Cortex. Neo Sanity maybe? I would say that Joe Pearson could probably provide the answer as to why there's so many Ns in Crash. I think anything having to do with Cortex would be branded with an "N".
Another fellow involved with Crash at the very beginning was David Siller. He was the first producer and worked out a lot of the game play aspects and logistics of the islands. You don't hear about him much cuz ND kind of cut him out of the history of Crash like everything else that didn't suit the image they wanted to create of themselves. But he was there at the beginning and much of what he did is contained in the original Willy the Wombat / Crash production bible.
Pat - I wasn't caught up in it and I don't think Joe was either. I wasn't aware of what was going on at the time for the most part. I would find out about things more or less after the fact. Our conflict came when ND misrepresented to the press our involvement with the project. After this more info started coming our way.
Gabriele - I would have to create a dedicated blog to feature the production bible. I really don't know when I'll be able to organize it. There's still a huge archive of works from He-Man, She-Ra etc plus many other projects I'm trying to get to. In time we'll manage to do something with the Crash bible.

I would love to read that bible. If you have it I hope you can spread some infos with us.
ReplyDeleteHey Charles, when ND butted heads with Universal when developing Crash 1, were you or Joe caught in the conflicts as well?
