Spyro Reignited Trilogy !! - Coming Sept 2018

When it rains it pours! A fan from Australia brought this to my attention as the trailer for the remastered original Spyro trilogy for PS4 and XBox One was released today. Toys For Bob is the developer and Activision will be publishing the series this coming September a full 20 years after the debut of the first game way back in 1998. Very impressive!

What do you think of the updated look on Classic Spyro and the Reignited Trilogy so far, Charles? :D

Hi Crystal Blaze. They did a great job! Actually I initially designed Spyro to be pushed in his personality. He was intended to be more extreme in his behavior / expressions and emotions. Like a spoiled little brat of a dragon. In any case I'm quite happy with what they did. He looks very similar to what I originally intended with the design and the animation on the character is excellent!

That’s really cool! I’m loving the looks of the remasters too. :)

I recently saw this video with the uploader interviewing you that implies that you’re “disappointed” with the whole Reignited Trilogy. But obviously you love the looks of it.

I really don't understand why this one person is implying that you "hate" the design or you are disappointed. He looks absolutely adorable, and as you said it looks very similar with what you originally designed, i'm glad your dragon son is back alive <3

Here's the link to the video by the way. Originally it had a clickbait title that said you were "angry" at the whole Spyro Reignited Trilogy. I don't believe you are mad at the whole game, since you said you aren't, but this guy claims that you are - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci_FB3hwHqQ

Hi Crystal Blaze and Unknown. The thing I'm disappointed about the most is the way the interview was portrayed. I went into it with a very positive attitude. I made an emphatic point about how great I thought the look of Spyro is and the whole game as well. For some reason the interviewer took it into a direction that made the entire thing seem negative. It's no secret that I'm disappointed about what went on with Crash and Spyro and Jak and Daxter. But that wasn't the emphasis of the interview. I was contacted and asked about my opinion of the new Spyro and I gave it a glowing review based upon the trailer but he decided to focus on something else entirely. Really ruined the experience for me. I'm not inclined to listen to it and would rather just forget the whole thing.

Hi Charles! Thanks for creating Spyro, it is my favorite video game character ever. I cannot even count how many hours I spent playing that trilogy and day-dreaming about it! I have a question, perhaps you can help me out. Were you also responsible for making the concepts for the environments, design and color keys included? If not, would you be able to tell me who were they or even a site/book where I could actually see that art? Thanks and hope to see you name in the remaster’s credits :)

I don't recall a name change. But plenty of people were butt hurt over the current one.

I was also wondering about that (sparx, eggthief, Gnorc, ect).

Hi Allan Martin and thanks for your great comments! I worked on Spyro's design from scratch to final look plus other dragon designs that were used in the game and I also designed Nasty Gnorc and did a bunch of other gnorc designs and also the sheep that Spyro burns up.

Allan Martin and gameboyblue - I don't know who designed the backgrounds or the other characters. I didn't spend much time at Insomniac. I did my work so fast that I had done everything they were looking for very quickly so there wasn't much of a chance to meet other artists. The art director was a guy by the name of Craig Stitt. I think he did most of the other design work or oversaw it.

Charles Zembillas,
Thank you very much for Spyro and Crash Bandicoot designs. I got really invested in the game with my cousin when we were kids. Now that it's coming as a remaster, it's nostalgic since he is no longer with us.
The artwork at the time had always amazed us. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks for your considerate comment Joseadorn. Happy that you have good memories with your cousin.

Hello Charles. I understand how you feel about all of this but rest assured, people know very well who made all of these amazing characters. I would also love you were the one designing them in the remake, but you made them in the originals which is much more appreciated. Thank you for creating these awesome guys!
