Okay Crash fans here's more never before art that's being published for the first time. These drawings are of the Komodo Brothers. Komodo Moe and Komodo Joe. They were created in 1997 as reference for toys of the characters. The images are photocopies. The back views were drawn on a separate page and were merged with the front and side poses for display here. A small sketch of the other side of Moe's face can be seen in his rotation since his expressions is asymmetrical. Credit for the original creation of the Komodo Brothers goes to Joe Pearson. I followed up on what he conjured.

Character Rotation practice
It's been a while since I drew a character rotation. Here's something I gradually completed over the past few days while my students were working in class. I did it in preparation for next week's assignment for the beginning students who've recently enrolled in Character Design 1. Something simple for their reference. Maybe it will help designers in general get a better understanding of how to approach this aspect of character development.

Rocket ride - Class demo 1998
This is one of my favorite demonstrations. I created it in 1998 a few months after I started my school. From a spontaneous concept sketch I made a photocopy and used multiple mediums to render it including markers and some color pencils along with acrylic paint for the sky. I used this art for the cover of a book I self published 10 years later in 2008.

Neo Cortex Rotation 1997
Add this to the historical archives Crash Bandicoot fans. Here's the rotation I did for Naughty Dog in 1997 of Neo Cortex. This was to be used as a guide for developing a toy of the character. The back view was on a separate page. I joined it with the other poses for display. Click on the image for a better view.

Class demo that kids like
While visiting a friend this weekend he happened to have a copy of my book handy. I published Controlling Illusion in 2008. My friend's young children were looking through it and seemed to enjoy themselves even more when they got to this picture. It's a class demonstration from 2006. Happy to see kids responding to it positively. I like this character and maybe I'll develop him further in the future.

Male Figure study
Wish it was more exciting but it's important none the less as it helped some students learn plus it was good practice. My most current work from last evening's Character Design 2 is a demo sketch describing my process of drawing the male figure without the need of an in depth knowledge of anatomy. By utilizing a simple method of drawing with a focus upon design my students get really good really fast at creating a functional figure based upon the proportions of the human body that can be used as a foundation for their own characters. Maybe positing it here can help other artists improve in this area.

Crash Bandicoot - Ripper Roo rotations
By request for some art of Ripper Roo the maniacal kangaroo from Crash Bandicoot. I found these photocopies of drawings I did at Naughty Dog with one dated March 1997 and another March 11 1997. I'm sure I drew both of them that day. The first one below has no date but my feeling is that it's from 1997 as well. With the previous rotations of Crash and Coco I mentioned that I did them in 1998. I may be wrong as they are part of the same body of work. In any case I'm certain that these are from 1997. The two stand alone images show the character with a mustache and a big lock of hair. I think we were trying to make him look like Albert Einstein. I believe there's more art that I did of Ripper Roo. Meanwhile enjoy these rare images. I'm pretty sure this is the first time they've been published.

Female Sith
After seeing "Star Wars - The Phantom Menace" in 1998 I had an idea for creating a female Sith character. I found an opportunity to explore the concept as a class demonstration at my school that year. I used blue pencil and gray markers to come up with an image combining both mediums. It was a fun demo that my students enjoyed plus we all learned from it.
