Crash Bandicoot - Origin of Dingodile - Part 2

Continuing with the my initial entry of the Origin of Dingodile from March 16 2013. Here's a few more images from the development of the character for his appearance in Crash Bandicoot 3. The art is dated February 4 1998.

At one point Dingodile wore a hat reminiscent of what you'd see in Australia...

I genuinely do not like this drawing and considered not including it in the presentation but I decided to show it anyway as it's part of how Dingodile came to be...

I dropped the hat and tried a mop of scruffy hair instead...

There was a moment when Dingodile walked on all fours...

This is wonderful stuff. I'm a big Crash fan, I love seeing how you progressed when designing my favourite childhood characters!

(Related to Crash 3 - I'd love to see sketches for Dr. N.Tropy too if you have them :))

Also, I wanted to ask- will we be seeing Spyro the Dragon art on the blog? Like all the designs for the series' enemies that you created? That would be amazing!

Great work, and thanks very much for giving us the gift of being able to see it!

He looks more "australian" in the first one, was he supposed to breath fire from his mouth like a dragon? Did you designed also Uka Uka, Nefarious Tropy and Baby T.rex?

I really like the one on all fours for some reason. That would have been very interesting to see!

Thanks everyone. Glad you like these sketches. Dingodile wasn't quite there at this phase but he was on the way.

Cha L - I do indeed have copies of the development drawings of N Tropy. He's on the way.

Gabriele - ND wanted Dingodile to be a fire breathing character. I suggested that he would be more interesting if he had a device to shoot fire instead so I developed him with a flame flower. Those drawings are on the way. And yes, I did design Uka Uka, N Tropy, and Baby T Rex. Bob Rafei had something to do with the look of Baby T Rex. I have development drawings of all these characters and will make them public.

Katy - Dingodile's arms and hands were needed to operate the flame thrower but another character similar to this would've had possibilities.

Love these drawings of that pyromaniac Charles!

Charles, when did you decide to ditch the shirt for Dingodile and just let him have on the overalls? Was it due to technical reasons with the PlayStation?

Also, who came up with the time-traveling story for Crash 3? Was it ND themselves?

In the old Nughty Dog site I saw a lot of characters sketches and drawings by you and Bob, but I didn't remember who made what. In my "Crash archive" I have some beautyfull random enemies sketches, with the lab assistants dressed as wizards or mummies, the Shark from Crash 1 that you posted earlier anmd other enemies. Did you designed enemies only for Crash 3?

Pat - Not sure how or why the shirt was lost. I think it came about with the flame thrower. He was shirtless with a pair of pants. There were no overalls with his initial design.

Gabriele - On Crash 3 I designed Dingodile, N Tropy, Baby T Rex, Uka Uka, Pura and that's about it as I recall. Also on Crash 2 I designed N Gin but I'm having a tough time finding copies of the drawings I did of him. I didn't get quality copies from ND on most of these images at this phase of my involvement with them but I do have work that has probably never been published before. Whatever I have will eventually get posted here.
