Crash Bandicoot t-shirt design 1997

I find things from Crash that I came up with while working on the games from back in the day. Here's another example. This was for a t-shirt design that Naughty Dog asked me to come up with while on Crash 2 in 1997. It's a concept sketch of Crash as a fireball streaking towards the ground...

This is another version that incorporated different positioning on his legs...

This is a quick doodle I created to show how the design would look on a t-shirt...

Lastly here's the final line drawing of Crash for the t-shirt. I don't know if it was ever printed. From what I recall this was not something that was going to be sold. It was for the ND crew and others close to the production.

Enjoy this vintage Bandicoot artwork Crash fans!

Holy Smokes Charles!!!!!! That is beyond awesome! I just love Crash's expression when he's hurling towards the ground, it kinda reminds me of some Sonic the Hedgehog artwork made by Sega back in the 90's.

Also Charles, to answer your question, I never saw this t-shirt lurking around the internet. But there was indeed a Crash 2 shirt being sold back in 1997 when ND released the game but it's far more different than your design. It was Crash in his JetPack gear hurling to space leaving smoke from the Earth. I'll show you a picture of it:

I knew you guys would like this one. It's among and could very well be the best Crash drawing I ever did. Crash at the height of his glory. I like others too but this one is special.

Gabriele - He's hurling to the ground in a fireball to exaggerate his speed. I'm not sure where the concept originated but it was probably ND's. Something I did while working in their studios on Crash 2.

Pat - I wasn't familiar with what was happening with Sonic at the time. Also the flying jet pack Crash was something I developed at ND. I have those drawings around and will feature them at some point.

Oh Charles, I have a question but it's not Crash related; for my senior year in high school, I decided to take some art classes to improve my art skills in the future so I can get into a college/art school and for my future in the business. Classes I decided include Visual Arts, Tech. Drawing and Photoshop. I've took VA before in freshman and it's a fun class, I also know that in Tech. Drawing you sketch technology and buildings and plan out blueprints for design.

But that's besides the point, I'm more inclined to what Photoshop is. From what I've been told, people edit photos and color. Since you're the art and Photoshop expertise, maybe you can give me a few pinpoints/ideas for my senior class so I can prepare what's coming up?

Hey Charles. Mega fan of your awesome work on Crash, Jak and Spyro! Any way of emailing you?

Sure thing Pat. My advice in no particular order is to practice your drawing at all times. Practice also with traditional mediums such as watercolors, acrylics, markers, etc. All great Photoshop artists I know recommend getting your analog skills down first.

Play around with Photoshop and learn what the tools are. Have fun with it. Watch tutorials and demos on YouTube. There's plenty of them. The more you practice, observe and apply, the better you'll get. Good luck!

Hey Matt! Thanks and welcome! I can be reached through my school's email. Go to The Animation Academy's site and click on the contact tab. Send your email to my attention and I'll get it. I ask that you be very patient with a reply as answering email in a timely manner can sometimes be a major issue for me.

It's good to have the luck to know the one behind the Crash B. Artwork. Mr. Zembillas, this is also great. Thanks.

Hey Charles, it's a bit late to ask, but do you possibly think I could use this design to create a custom Shirt? I'm quite good at designing shirts with simple software (Gimp). I will probably send pics soon. Thank You, and good day!

If you intend on marketing the shirt I would advise against it. Copyright issues and Activision's ownership of Crash would prohibit this straight out. Be considerate of intellectual property rights when you're doing things like this guys.
