J&K - The Road to Daxter - Part 4

Picking up on the design progress of Daxter from Jak and Daxter in 2000. These next sketches show a turning point in the development of the character. The first drawing below has potential for something. After this the direction on the emerging sidekick started to change. Here's some of the stronger designs during this period.

I like these designs Charles!

The third one is probably the closest to the original design. And my mind is telling me that the second sketch reminds me a little bit of Ratchet from Ratchet & Clank. Probably because it has the same face and ears as Ratchet.

Thanks Pat. Any similarity to Ratchet & Clank is purely coincidental. I was designing characters with similar features to R&C long before the game came out. There was a large volume of development work I created for Daxter. This is only a small part of it. Most of the designs I wasn't particularly keen on. The direction I was getting was awkward but it all came together well as you'll see in a few more entries.
