Who are you?

Where are you from? What are you about? 

Is that a costume or your skin? Were you bitten by a spider?

Do you have an agent? Do you work on weekends?

 These are questions I ask whenever a character like this comes along.

Last week on Thursday evening as I wrapped up the session for my Visual Development class I sketched out this concept that came to mind.

How things happen... 

I was practicing with color the other night when I sketched this in Photoshop.

 I liked the look so I thought I'd try it again.

So far so good. How about another.

When I put them together it gave me an idea.

That's how it works sometimes.

Strange creature

When working on a project not everything makes the cut. Especially when you're creating in volume. Exploratory concept development has casualties but even stuff that gets shelved can be good content. Quick practice with Photoshop on an image from last year.

Horsing around

These designs came about when a friend asked me to help out with their project. Drawn and colored in Photoshop. The project was based on a story involving Arabian horses. Minimal anatomical research involved. Straight ahead first pass concepts. Fun stuff, lose approach, good practice.

A random doodle became a lesson. I do most of my drawing nowadays with my students while class is in progress. Demonstrations help them learn. That's one of the reasons why they do so well.  The drawings made a good advertisement for the Academy. Created in March, 2012 with Col-erase Blue.

Super duper heroes

Hi again. I did these as class demos at Cal State Northridge. Photoshop on a Cintiq while the process was projected on a screen. Lessons in color theory over two sittings in 2010.
